Update on proposed plans for the Tank Field & Village Green Status application - Two seperate but pressing concerns for the local residents of Norton Green are the ' Village Green ' application for the Tank field & also the proposed plans prepared by Groundforce - Stoke on Trent City Council ... to date there has been no follow up to either as yet. As we all know these official matters do take time & as these matters progress, all details will be published on the Community Noticeboard in Ball Lane & here on the website.
History Group - Currently there will be no more meetings until further notice. Although research & preparations are still being carried out in the background. Keep visiting us at norton-green.com for further news & updates.
Food for thought! ..... Norton green, are we the first village along the River Trent? Fact or fiction? An ex-pat of Norton Green, now living in London, after viewing our website sent me an email recently offering this very fact. What are your thoughts? Do you agree? Do you have any information confirming or disagreeing this? Email me your thoughts & findings. Maybe a forum or Blog can be started to discuss this & other matters of concern or interest, or maybe you just would like to post messages. Watch this space for updates........
Update on Tank Field - There will be a public consultation for the Tank Field proposals on Wednesday 10th May @ the Zion Methodists Chapel - between the hours 4.00pm - 7.30pm. This meeting has been arranged by Groundforce - Stoke on Trent City Council.
This meeting was cancelled due to staffing changes. A new date for the meeting will be available shortly:
Update on History Group - Following our first meeting last month, April 2006, which was a great success, it was decided among members to arrange future meetings for the first Wednesday of every month beginning June 7th 2006 @ the Zion Methodists Chapel, Endon Rd - 7.30pm. For the next meeting will members bring along any historic information they currently have so we can begin to catalogue & record our already growing data collection. Further to our research we require local information toward anything unusual like Ghosts, unexplained events etc.... Please use the contact information given below. If you would like to join the group then contact either B.Moore or Darren Gerrard for further details.... or if you prefer just turn up on the night.
Easter is but days away, the flower planters are now in place and are full of Springtime colour. We had arranged for the children of the village to help and join in with the planting and in Bird box making, as usual the weather was its usual unpredictable, predictable self and the whole day was very cold and wet, so after postponing the Bird box making, another date will be decided for this activity. Details will be available in the Community Noticeboard on Ball Lane.
KidZ PaGe- Showcase your talents to the world through our website. norton-green.com is looking for your jokes, stories pictures, music, game and book reviews, hobbies and interests. Or maybe you could become one of our junior representatives for the village, giving your point of view as a younger resident. Whatever your interests get in touch via the contacts on the back of the recent village newsletter - (parental consent will be required).
Spring approaches and with funds raised from our local events, funding from local grants and a generous donation from Mrs.Lisa Lewis - owner of The Salon, Norton Green, which we would like to thank.... we are able to brighten up the village this year with the installation of new flower planters. They will be positioned on the Bridge at Endon Rd and on the Green area at Trentside Rd. The Residents Association will be asking local children for their help to plant up the planters as part of our programme to involve the younger children in our living enviroment. Along with the two other flowerbeds already established at each end of the village, we hope to maintain a display of seasonal colours throughout the year.
The Norton Green History Group - Do you have an interest in our local history? Would you like to research our past and help us record and piece together information. Maybe you have some interesting tales about the village to share. Whatever your interests why don't you come along to the first Village History meeting and help us record our heritage.
The first meeting will be held on Wednesday 19th April 2006 - 7pm @ the Zion Methodist Chapel, Endon Rd.
Everyone Welcome.
Throughout the last 12months we have been slowly building up an archive of photographs of the village which will soon be available for loan to residents. The collection contains schooling through the years, chapel events, village meetings, properties, and families. Although the collection is growing steadily, we are always looking for more photos to add to the collection. Therefore if you have anything that you think would be of any interest to us please contact a member of the Residents Association - contact details are available on the back of the recent village newsletter. We will treat your photographs with the greatest of care and respect and once copied will promptly return them. Our sincere thanks to everyone who has so far donated to the collection.

As
the weather turns even colder this month...! Christmas approaches & it's time
to switch on our Annual Christmas Lights. Gathering around the Tree to the sound
of christmas carols sung by local residents, members of the Zion Methodists Chapel
& members of the Residents Association dressed in period costume, the aroma
of warm mince pies drifting in the night air the Christmas Tree is lit & stands
for all to see at Trentside Manor Residential Home.
Village
Green Update - Darren Gerrard, Chairman, has now submitted the Village Green
application to the Commons Registra for approval. Regular updates about the Village
Green application will appear as it progresses. If the application is successful
the Tank Field will be one of only 3,500 registered and protected Village Greens
in England. This we feel will be a monumental achievment for the village and is
testament to the hard work of us all working together for the good of the village.
We are presently looking into marking the registration if successful by having
some form of plaques on the field to commemorate and promote its protection.
Brrrr.
Winter is upon us all to soon as we hold our Annual Bonfire & Fireworks display.
The weather was kind to us on the night, although throughout the day during preparations
we experienced a few hard downpours! This year we decided to include Halloween
Fancy dress for the local children on the same night which again was a huge success.
Thankyou to everyone who made it happen & to all who attended. Some photographs
of the night are available to view in our gallery.
Village
Green Update - This month after delivering 300 Tank Field / Village Green
Status surveys to local residents, we had 52% returns with 100% saying yes to
the application & the majority also giving statements to the use of the land
dating back to the 1930s. Darren Gerrard - Chairman, is getting ready to submit
the application to the council for further approval.
A
huge thankyou to all who took part in this years Annual Fun Day event in making
it possible & to all who attended & braved the weather!. Although the
day was a washout with the rain! It certainly didn't dampen anyones spirits! You
can view some of the photographs in our gallery.
Currently
Norton Green Residents Association are preparing plans to presents to the Stoke
on Trent City Council to apply for "Village Green" status for the Tank
Field. If the application is successful it will have little affect upon the way
the land is currently used, but would provide protection in law from future development
& would protect your rights as local residents to use the land for lawful
recreation & pastimes. Before the application is submitted we would welcome
your views. Over the next few weeks details will be available to all residents.
