Topic: Surname Pointon/Ball

Hello

As I have many Pointon ancestors originating from Norton Green and Brown Edge, I would like to check out the parish registers for St. Bartholomews.

I would be grateful if you could tell me if any of them have been published and if so where I can obtain copies.

In particular I am trying to establish a marriage between William Pointon and Phebe Ball on May 14 1817, looking for the names of their parents.

Can anyone help please?

Regards - Joan Salmon (nee Pointon)

Topic: Surname Sherratt

I've been on your site and it is very well done. I was able to pull some Parish records for John/Ellen Sherratt for my records.

I have dozens and dozens of Sherratts from Norton that I have not been able to connect prior to 1800, hopefully someday I'll have them all figured out.

Topic: Surname Sherratt

Hello

you have recently heard from my distant cousin, Ron Sharratt. I was very interested to hear about William Sherratt born 1641 (WS) - reading between the lines WS is the uncle of Hugh Bourne.

Also it has occurred to me that WS could be the brother of our ancestor John Sherratt who was married to Mary Clowes. I don't know where or when John and Mary were born but their son was William was baptised at Leek in 1667 which means our John could be WS's older brother who was baptised in 1836 at Norton.

Also our William's son Henry married Ann Fynney who was baptised at Norton in 1697 - so there was definitely a connection between our Sherratts and Norton.

Therefore I would be extremely interested to learn more about the following: William born 1641's brother John - in particular whether he married Mary Clowes who was baptised at Norton in 1650 - the Fynney (or Finney) family.

Our Ann's parents were Ralph and Ann Steel who were married at Dilhorne in 1688 - can you please tell me when the church was first registered for marriages - the IGI does not have any marriage records prior to 1752. Where did earlier marriages take place?

If you are unable to answer my questions, do you know anyone else who may be able to help.

Very many thanks for your help with this

Best wishes

Topic: Sherratts

Hi Friend

I am doing the Genealogy of my family the Sherratts who originate from your area - my branch of the family started to spell it Sharratt when they moved to Lancashire in the late Nineteenth Century.

My ancestors actually came from Cheddleton and Ipstones but myself and other family members, doing this search with me, feel that the Sherratts were probably all linked. We wondered if you or any of your members could tell us anything about the Sherratts who owned the Cockshead Colliery or anything else about the history of the family in you area?

Other families connected with the Sherratts through marriage are the Clowes, Finneys, Goostreys, Goldstraws and Speakmans amongst others and we shall keep a watch on your site for helpful information. Also, if I or any of many fellow researchers find anything which might be of interest to you we will let you know.

Look forward to hearing from you

'Ow at,

Great site, well done, it makes my mouth water just looking at the photo of the "Quart." I've learned more about "The Grayn" in 10 minutes on this site than I did when I lived there on & off for 30 years!
