Topic: Surname Potts/Savage
Hello
I am trying to find out more about my family history Potts/Savage of Norton Green.
My grandfather was Norman Potts born 1906 and died 1940, he died at Lane ends, Brown Edge, Norton according to his certificate.
Could you please tell me where this is/was?
My GGrand father was Daniel Savage of Bews Buildings and I believe that he painted a mural on the gable end of his home and that there are photos of this, do you happen to know where I can find out any more?
Yours gratefully
Pauline Matthews
Topic: Surname Mare, Mear, Mayer
Hi
I am researching my family tree and have found a connection between the Mares of Wolstanton. I believe that they are ancestors of William De La Mare whose son was murdered and after that he left Norton Green and his lands were broken up.
One of my gt ... grandmas was Rebecca Mare who was the daughter of Elijah Mayer, the potter. I notice that you are updating information on The Lords of the manor and wonder if you would kindly help me with information or point me in the right direction?
Many thanks
Kind Regards
Patricia

Hello
I was browsing through your site on Norton Green, clicking on the photograph section - No. 8 Local farmers? I was stunned to see my ancestors. They are the Deane family of I think Norton Hall Farm, not quite certain of who is who, but my recently discovered relative Ann Bowers nee Deane, the daughter of Geoffrey Arthur Deane and Fanny Preston has shown me the same photo.
The family goes back (in N Staffs) to at least 1688 when a Josiah Deane who was married to Sarah Sneyd were living at Woodhead farm, they then moved to Norton.
Any information you may have would be appreciated and obviously I can probably help you with your research.
Regards
Rodger Deane
