Creative Corner / poetry

A Bargees Lot
On the Cauldon canal I ply my trade
A Bargees life the waters made
Pots & steel, flint & lime
I pull across the waters line
To Froghall Wharf I often go
In wind & rain, sun & snow
Endon bricks I load at times
Tonnes of coal from the many mines

From Heakley hall to Cockshead Mill
Then wait for Engine lock to fill
A steady pull by faithful Meg
Takes us to the Potters shed
I swap my load & fill back up
Then off I go upon the cut
