A
TIME GONE BY We met and wed a long
time ago, We worked long hours when pay was low, No TV. No radio. No bath.
Times were hard, Just a cold water tap and a walk up the yard, No holiday's
abroad No carpet on the floors, But we had coal on the fire and we didn't
lock doors, Our children arrived, no pill in those days, And we brought
them up without any state aid, They were safe to go out and play in the park.
Old foals could go for a walk after dark. No Valium - No drugs - No LSD,
We cured all our ills with a good cup of tea. Then: if you were sick you were
treated at once, Not: fill in that form and come back in 6 months. No
vandals- no muggings- there was nothing to rob, We felt we were rich with
a couple of bob. People seemed happier in those far off days, Kinder and
caring in so many ways. Milkmen and paper boys would whistle and sing,
And most were grateful for even small things. We all had our share of trouble
and strife, And had to face up to the pattern of life.
